Holiday Update 2021

Greetings friends,

Happy fall! We are so grateful to be your favorite bookstore and to have been able to stay open our usual business hours throughout 2021. The store is well stocked with great new books and gifts, and well staffed. In light of all the disruptions in our industry (paper shortages, printing and shipping delays, etc.) we're looking forward to the next couple of months with excitement and even joy!

Your steadfast support has allowed us to retain our great employees and pay them somewhat better than pre-pandemic. As more and more caring people like you commit to buying all your books from us, all the time, we will come even closer to being able to pay the employees the living wages and benefits they deserve - like health insurance! It's simple: we really do need you to help that happen.

We're happy to have been able to bring back in-person author events in a limited fashion this fall, partnering with the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre across the street in a win-win arrangement for us both. Check out our Events page on the website to see what's happening next.

We have worked hard all year to fill the store with inspiring books, delectable chocolate, cards and journals and calendars for every taste, puzzles to brighten your days off, candles to warm you on cold evenings, and lots of other gifts for everyone on your list including your doggo. We're anxious to show it all off to you and look forward to seeing you soon.

We wanted to update you on a few changes we're implementing for the season to be sure we can serve you as smoothly and satisfactorily as possible.

Inventory Closure
We'll be doing our full physical store inventory right before Thanksgiving, and will be closed from Sunday, Nov. 21 through Thursday, Nov. 25 (Thanksgiving Day.) We'll see you again on Friday, Nov. 26 and look forward especially to celebrating Small Business Saturday and Indies First with you on Saturday, Nov. 27.

Website Shopping
We are updating and streamlining our website now and are making sure that the check-out process will be easy to navigate. We're still offering free gift wrapping, and free local delivery each week as well as curbside or in-store pickup.

Need Recommendations?
Every staff member has recommendations on our website that are always in the process of being updated. There are also links on our website to several indie bestseller lists. Feel free to email us at bookpeople@moscow.com for help. If you're shopping for younger readers in your life, email our kid lit expert Eija at bookpeoplekidlit@gmail.com. We all read a lot and will have ideas for you.

Shipping Your Gifts
If you choose to have us ship your gifts for you, we will, as always, handle your packages personally and with care. We walk your packages over to the downtown post office every weekday during the holidays. Due to USPS rate increases for commercial mail and expected delivery delays, we will offer our regular 99 cent media mail shipping rate on orders placed online through October 31 only, and then suspend it until 2022. Beginning in November, media mail rates will start at $5, and during December, we will suspend media mail until 2022, and only offer priority mail starting at $9 as a shipping option. This change will protect us and you both, insuring that we don't lose lots of money on each package and that your packages do not languish on the way to their destinations.

Giving Tree
The giving tree will be back again, virtually, in conjunction with Christmas for Kids, to help all the children in our community get books as gifts, even if their families are of limited means. Watch for the link on our website in late November as soon as we get the wish lists from our partner in this wonderful annual program. If you don't want to wait until then, you can buy a gift card and donate it to the Giving Tree at any time. Just buy a gift card in the amount you want to contribute, and let us know it's for this year's giving tree! Thank you for your generosity, once again.

With gratitude,

Carol and all the team at BookPeople of Moscow

The holiday season is gonna be cray-cray!
