Iconic Children’s Book Character Continues to Create Summertime Fun to Support the Shop Local Movement

Where’s Waldo? On the Palouse, of course. The iconic children’s book character in the red-and-white-striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is visiting 30 local businesses throughout our community this July. Find Waldo on the Palouse is a free, family-friendly summer activity and a wonderful way to support local businesses.

Beginning Monday, July 1, anyone who wishes to participate can pick up a “Find Waldo Local on the Palouse!” stamp card at BookPeople of Moscow, 521 South Main, with the names of participating local businesses. For each Waldo they spot, they can get their card stamped or signed by the participating shop. There is no charge to participate, and the hunt lasts for the entire month of July.

Waldo seekers who get their cards stamped or signed at 15 or more businesses can bring them back to BookPeople of Moscow for a special sticker, a Chupa Chup lollipop, and a coupon.  To be entered in the grand prize drawing for Waldo books and other Waldo merchandise, stamp cards must be completely filled and brought to BookPeople of Moscow by 5 p.m., July 31.

For information about the prize drawings and wrap-up party on August 3, visit BookPeople of Moscow in person or watch this space!

Where’s Waldo is the creation of Martin Handford whose collections of crowd scenes took the world by storm in the late 1980s, and since then the books have held a cherished place on bookstore shelves. More than 80 million Waldo books have been sold worldwide, and they’ve been translated into over thirty languages.

Once again, in celebration of Waldo’s longevity and popularity, Candlewick Press is teaming up with the American Booksellers Association and hundreds of independent bookstores nationwide for some hide-and-seek fun designed to encourage residents to patronize their local businesses. Each participating business is also donating a prize for the prize drawings at the conclusion of the search.
