The Washington state legislature established Washington State University on March 28th 1890. This was one of the first major acts of the state legislature following the establishment of statehood in 1889. It was not until 1892 that the college opened in Pullman, followed by the first graduating class of 7 men and women in 1897. In 1905 the school adopted the name “State College of Washington” but was commonly known as “Washington State College”. The name was then changed by the state legislature to “Washington State University” (WSU) in 1959.
Today WSU has 12 colleges and a graduate school offering more than two hundred fields of study. The university annually confers around 5900 degrees & certificates statewide. In recent years the incoming freshman class has seen enrollment of around 4500 students. WSU is ranked 70th among public universities in the 2016 U.S. News & World Report rankings.
Bookpeople of Moscow is about 8.7 miles east of Washington State University. 13 minutes by car, 47 minutes by bicycle. If you are looking for a long walk, expect it to take just under 3 hours each way. We are located at 521 South Main St. Moscow Idaho
Our bookstore has been serving Washington State University students and faculty since November 17th 1973 when we first opened our doors. We are one of the longest lived Independent bookstores in the U.S. We are a member of Buy Local Moscow, the Pullman Chamber of Commerce, and the Moscow Chamber of Commerce. We support local businesses whenever possible. Why? Because we appreciate living in a vibrant community with a healthy retail core full of shops that meet our day to day needs, owned by local folks like us who care about our community and work hard to make this a great place to live.
