The University of Idaho (UI) is the oldest university in the state of Idaho. It was formed by the territorial legislature in 1889 and opened its doors to the public in October 1892. Two men and two women comprised the first graduating class in 1896. Currently, the Moscow campus has an enrollment of about 11,000 students. From 1896 through May 2011, the University of Idaho granted 80,233 bachelor's degrees, 21,734 master's degrees, 2,694 doctoral degrees, 240 honorary degrees, 1,164 specialist degrees, and 3,654 law degrees. Of the recipients of these degrees one of the most famous and arguably important is the FBI informant who broke the Watergate story to the Washington Post Mark Felt, AKA Deep Throat.

The UI campus sits on 1,585 acres and consists of 253 buildings. It is a rural residential campus offering 142 degree programs. Moscow is a small college town, home to 25,850 residents as of the 2021 census. It is located in the rolling hills of the Palouse region of north Idaho. Adjacent to the southwest side of town; most stores, restaurants, and bars are within easy walking distance of the university. Moscow lies close to the border of Washington. Approximately eight miles to the west is Washington State University (WSU), located in Pullman, WA. If you’re thinking of attending either of these schools, our own Sidney Williams has written short articles on what you can do as a UI or WSU student.

Located at 521 South Main St. Bookpeople of Moscow is just a few blocks east of the University of Idaho (UI). A couple minutes by car, 5 minutes by bicycle or a 10 minute walk, depending on where you are coming from on campus.

Our bookstore has been serving students and faculty at the University of Idaho since November 17th 1973 when we first opened our doors. We are one of the longest lived Independent bookstores in the U.S., members of Buy Local Moscow, the Pullman Chamber of Commerce, and the Moscow Chamber of Commerce. We support local businesses whenever possible. Why? Because we appreciate living in a vibrant community with a healthy retail core full of shops that meet our day to day needs, owned by local folks like us who care about our community and work hard to make this a great place to live.
